Discord will begin making eligible messages from public channels in Discoverable Servers visible on public web pages from mid-December 2026. These pages may be indexed by Google and other search engines.
The feature will be enabled by default for eligible accounts in most regions. Private servers, DMs and group DMs are not included, and usernames and avatars will not appear alongside published messages.
The biggest warning: turning the setting off does not automatically remove messages sent while it was enabled.
When Does the Discord Google Search Rollout Start?
Discord is introducing public server pages and individual messages in two stages:
| Date | What changes |
|---|---|
| November 16, 2026 | Discoverable Servers receive public Server Web Pages, which can display summaries of eligible public-channel discussions. |
| Mid-December 2026 | Eligible individual messages begin appearing on those pages and may become searchable through Google and other search engines. |
The individual-message rollout will be gradual. Messages may take a few weeks to appear, and not every eligible message will immediately show up in Google.
Which Discord Messages Are Affected?
The change applies to participating public channels inside Discoverable Servers. Administrators choose which eligible channels can contribute content, while members have a separate setting controlling their own messages.
The feature does not include:
- Private servers.
- Direct messages and group DMs.
- Private or role-restricted channels.
- Private threads and private forums.
Public threads and forums can qualify when their parent channel is eligible. Discord says participating channels will display an icon and notify members before they post.
How to Stop Discord Messages From Appearing on Google
Follow these steps on Discord’s desktop app or in a browser:
- Open User Settings.
- Select Data & Privacy.
- Find “Show my message content from Discoverable channels on web pages.”
- Turn the setting off.
Your choice applies across your account, including messages sent from mobile. You do not need to disable it separately in every server.
Where Is the Setting Off by Default?
Discord says individual-message sharing is disabled by default for accounts in:
- The European Union and European Economic Area.
- The United Kingdom.
- Canada.
- Brazil.
- Australia.
- South Korea.
Teen accounts are excluded from the individual-message feature and cannot enable it.
Does Opting Out Remove Earlier Messages?
No. Discord checks your setting when you send a message.
Messages sent while sharing is disabled will not appear through the individual-message feature. However, eligible messages sent while it was enabled can still appear—even after you switch it off.
To remove a specific message from Discord’s public pages, delete the original message. Search engines may retain indexed or cached copies for longer, so removal from Google may require additional time or a separate removal request.
Discord’s announcement does not describe the rollout as making your entire historical chat archive searchable.
Will Your Username and Avatar Appear?
Discord says usernames and avatars will not appear alongside individual messages. However, identifying information written inside a message could still be visible.
For example, removing your profile details does not remove a name, email address or other personal information you included in the message itself.
What Can Discord Server Owners Control?
Server owners and administrators can manage participating channels through:
Server Settings → Community → Web Presence
The page includes separate controls for:
- Channel Summaries: AI-generated overviews of eligible public discussions.
- Channel Messages: Eligible messages displayed in their original wording.
Administrators can choose different channels for each feature or disable either one. The personal privacy switch controls individual-message sharing; it should not be treated as a complete opt-out from automated channel summaries.
Disabling both features does not remove the Server Web Page. Discord says the server must stop being Discoverable to remove that page.
What This Means for Gaming Communities
Searchable Discord discussions could make gaming tips, troubleshooting answers and community explanations easier to find without joining a server.
However, a Discord message appearing on Google is not automatically an official announcement. Players should still verify codes, update dates and reward information through the game developer’s official sources.
For members concerned about wider visibility, the key step is to check the privacy setting before posting not after a message has already become eligible for publication.
